The 6 Ultimate Quotes from Fjord Blue by Nina Rossing

As promised on my book review, I would post TUQ from Fjord Blue because 1. The book’s awesome, 2. I really loved the quotes there, 3. OF COURSE I WOULD, I do this to every book. LOL!

A little background: Fjord Blue is a Young Adult, Contemporary, LGBT book by Nina Rossing. You could first see my book review – but other than that…

Let’s get down to the quotes!

1.

“When I was little, I wanted to grow up. I have never been more wrong. Adult life is monotonous. Teenage life is chaos. I may prefer screwing up again rather than being stuck doing something mundane and repetitive.” (Nina Rossing, 2016, 50)

On the book: Ben and Eden were talking about life goals, and Ben admitted he didn’t have many plans.

Gel’s reflections: Looking back on childhood days feels so relaxing. Your biggest problem was choosing a crayon and waking up before morning cartoons. Those were the days…

I may agree with Ben a little. Teenage life is chaos. Good thing that I can keep my head up amidst everything.

And I am not in a rush to be an adult. I know it is far, far complicated… and I have so much to learn.

Guess I’ll enjoy teenage life (and fabulously mess things up… ALWAYS *grins*).

2.

“There’s a fine line between honesty and rudeness.” (Nina Rossing, 2016, 75)

On the book: Ben and Eden were talking about how Eden knows everyone in the small town and how Ben commented that that place seem insignificant.

Gel’s reflections: Splendid quote. If you really want to be give an honest opinion, then consider using tact. The fine line between honesty and rudeness is when you use the word “I’m just being honest with you,” to hurt or insult someone. Spare a terrible misunderstanding and just be polite.

“I don’t want life to be like that. I don’t want to stand there as another member of a silent audience observing life swerving by, a drama played by others. Not anymore.” (Nina Rossing, 2016, 103)

On the book: Ben and Eden were watching a cat playing with a little prey it caught in front of them; Eden said it’s nature, Ben said it’s torture.

Gel’s reflections: Another lovely quote.

Then speak out. Take a step. Be brave. You’re not insignificant. Trust me. I also do not want myself to be a “silent audience”. I want to be out there.

Oh, I know the perfect phrase: Dream on.

“Shut it. Everything’s black-and-white with you. The world isn’t like that, you know. You see no shades of gray anywhere, when there are plenty.” (Nina Rossing, 2016, 211)

On the book: Ben and Eden were talking about Eden’s parents – and how Ben commented that his father was an asshole and that he should just face it.

Gel’s reflections: I’m confused as to what this quote means since very long ago. Even then, I don’t bother to search whatever this means.

But I think the gist of “the world is not black and white” is that there is not always good or bad, right or wrong, true or false. If the world works like that, it’s boring and unrealistic, isn’t it? So many things can happen and we cannot just simply assume one is on THIS side while one is on THAT side.

“The rains chased us all the way and started pouring a few minutes before we reached Reidun’s apartment, soaking me to the bone. I thought to myself how strange that, though I longed for the sun at home, I no longer minded the rain.” (Nina Rossing, 2016, 265)

On the book: Saying his last words to his grandparents before leaving the farm, Ben had some sudden realization.

Gel’s reflections: I don’t know if the author intended this to be just a simple observation, or there is an underlying meaning on it. But whatever the case, this sentence made me go “awww…”. The wording was just so powerful. I loved it.

6.

“Okay, I know blaming anyone else for my shit is a coward’s move. I won’t resort to that.” (Nina Rossing, 2016, 267)

On the book: Ben was thinking about his weird parents’ genes that made him a confused idiot for a while there.

Gel’s reflections: Man up.
